Player status. It was a good Saturday for Ecuador’s players in Europe. Moisés Caicedo wore the captain’s armband as Chelsea won 2-0 at Everton, John Yeboah started in Venezia’s first Serie A win of the season, and Willian Pacho was rested as PSG came from behind at Strasbourg. The bad news: Piero Hincapié is still out with an ankle injury.
Moisés Caicedo: captain in a win at Everton
Caicedo started and captained Chelsea in a 2-0 Premier League win over Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on October 17. According to Chelsea’s official site, he partnered Jordan Henderson in central midfield, as he did in last weekend’s 5-1 win over Bournemouth.
Pedro Neto scored both goals, 43 seconds after half-time and again in the 90th minute. BBC Sport gave Caicedo a 7 out of 10, saying he relished the physical battle in midfield and nearly scored just before half-time with a first-time volley that hit the crossbar. He was replaced by Romeo Lavia in stoppage time.

John Yeboah: 63 minutes in Venezia’s first win
Yeboah started for Venezia in a 1-0 home win over Napoli, the club’s first Serie A victory of the season after six straight defeats. According to EFE and Primicias, the Ecuadorian played 63 minutes before being substituted. Akor Adams scored the only goal in the 49th minute, and Kevin De Bruyne missed a penalty for Napoli after coming off the bench. It was Davide Nicola’s first game as Venezia coach. The win was not enough to lift Venezia off the bottom of the table.
Willian Pacho: rested before Barcelona
Pacho was on the bench and did not play as PSG won 3-1 at Strasbourg in round 7 of Ligue 1. Giovanni Reyna put Strasbourg ahead in the 17th minute. PSG turned it around late after Luis Enrique sent on Ousmane Dembélé, Désiré Doué and Vitinha: Illia Zabarnyi equalized in the 77th minute from a Dembélé assist, Dembélé scored in the 85th, and Doué added the third in stoppage time. According to franceinfo, the win put PSG top of Ligue 1, at least for now.
Luis Enrique had rotated his lineup ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game against Barcelona. Pacho played the full 90 minutes in PSG’s 4-2 Champions League win at Manchester City on October 14.
Piero Hincapié: still a week or two away
Hincapié is expected to miss Arsenal’s Premier League game at Nottingham Forest on Sunday. According to Arsenal’s official site, he and Martín Zubimendi hurt their ankles in a training session on the Emirates Stadium pitch after the win over Leeds United. Hincapié also missed the midweek Champions League win over Lille.
“Piero is evolving really well,” Mikel Arteta said in his pre-match press conference. “Knowing his character and the way he pushes everybody, I’m sure it’s not going to take long, but he will probably need another week or two.”
