Six goals in Sangolquí

The Dragonas led inside two minutes, when Universitario defender Stephanie Lacoste turned a cross from Karol Murcia into her own net, according to EFE. Captain Nicole Charcopa made it 2-0 in the 8th minute from Karen Litardo’s cut-back. Pierina Núñez pulled one back for Universitario in the 23rd minute, Murcia restored the two-goal lead in the 41st, and Núñez scored again just before half-time.

Universitario played the last minutes of the first half and the whole second half with ten players after Daiana Farías was sent off in the 44th minute for denying Karen Páez a clear scoring chance, EFE reported. CONMEBOL wrote that goalkeeper Mía Shalit kept the visitors in it with a series of saves, until Murcia hit the post in the 78th minute and Páez headed in the rebound to make it 4-2. Páez also scored in the opening 1-1 draw with Belgrano.

What IDV need on Wednesday

Palmeiras (6 points) are already through after beating Belgrano 3-1. IDV have 4, Belgrano 1 and Universitario 0, and EFE reported that the Peruvian side are out. IDV face Palmeiras on Wednesday, October 21 (8:00 PM ET), at the same time as Belgrano vs Universitario.

  • Win or draw: IDV reach the quarterfinals (Belgrano can finish with 4 points at most).
  • Defeat: IDV stay on 4 points and go through unless Belgrano beat Universitario. In that case the two teams would be level and tiebreakers would decide, as Metro Ecuador pointed out.
