Independiente del Valle could be crowned LigaPro champions next weekend, but it depends on what Macará do on Saturday. After the 0-0 draw with Universidad Católica, Joaquín Papa’s team have 78 points, 15 more than second-placed Macará.
The fixtures
Macará host Barcelona SC in Ambato on Saturday, Oct 31 at 5:30 PM ET (4:30 PM in Ecuador). IDV host Liga de Quito on Sunday, Nov 1 at 1:30 PM ET. From Sunday, Ecuador and New York time are the same, because US daylight saving time ends.
How IDV clinch on Sunday
| Saturday | Sunday | IDV |
|---|---|---|
| Macará lose | IDV win or draw | Champions |
| Macará draw | IDV win | Champions |
| Macará draw | IDV draw | Not yet |
| Macará win | Any result | Not yet |
| Any result | IDV lose | Not yet |
After matchday 5, Macará will have five games left, worth 15 points. That’s why a loss on Saturday would leave them on 63 points, with a maximum of 78. A draw for IDV would then take them to 79, out of reach, as El Universo explains.
IDV also have a game in hand against Barcelona SC, from the first matchday of the final phase. El Comercio reports that the match was postponed because of call-ups to the Ecuador national team. Even if the title doesn’t come on Sunday, that extra game gives IDV one more chance to pull away.
