Técnico Universitario picked the right night for their first win of the relegation hexagonal. On Monday, in the first game back for coach Francisco Usúcar, the Rodillo Rojo beat Mushuc Runa 3-0 at the Estadio Bellavista in Ambato and climbed out of the drop zone, at least for now.

The goals

Bagner Delgado opened the scoring in the 15th minute with a right-footed finish after a misjudgement by the last Mushuc Runa defender, according to El Diario. Delgado then set up Luis Estupiñán, who curled a shot from outside the box into the top corner in the 42nd minute for 2-0. Diego Armas made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute after a handball in the area.

Mushuc Runa’s night got worse in the 62nd minute. Freddy Mina, who had come on at half-time for Arnaldo Zambrano, was sent off just 17 minutes after entering, as Ecuagol points out. Mushuc Runa had more of the ball (58% possession, per Primicias) but managed only two shots on target.

What it means

Técnico had drawn one and lost two of their first three hexagonal games. The win takes them to 36 points and fourth place in the relegation hexagonal, one point above Delfín (35), who lost 4-0 to Orense in this round. The bottom two at the end of the season go down, and Manta are bottom. Deportivo Cuenca lead the group with 44 points, and Mushuc Runa stay second on 40.
