Keny Arroyo set up the only goal of the Belo Horizonte derby on Thursday night. His cross found Kaio Jorge in the 4th minute, and Cruzeiro held on to beat Atlético-MG 1-0 at Arena MRV in round 33 of the Brasileirão.

FotMob named the Ecuadorian forward player of the match with an 8.5 rating, the highest on the pitch. Cruzeiro’s own goal post put it plainly: Kaio Jorge “took advantage of a lovely cross from Arroyo.”

He could have had a goal too

Arroyo played all 90 minutes and was a threat the whole way. He had five shots, two on target, hit the woodwork once and missed two big chances, according to FotMob’s numbers, which credit him with 1.01 expected goals. He also created two big chances, and he did his share without the ball, with three interceptions and five recoveries.

Winning the derby away from home is about as good as it gets for a Cruzeiro player, and nights like this keep Arroyo’s name in the conversation as Marcelo Gallardo builds his first Ecuador squads.
