Dragonas IDV reach the Libertadores quarterfinals

Closer to home, Independiente del Valle are into the last eight of the Copa Libertadores Femenina. The Dragonas drew 1-1 with Palmeiras at the Estadio Banco Guayaquil on Wednesday night, which was enough to finish second in Group B with five points behind the Brazilians’ seven, CONMEBOL reported. “Dragonas IDV qualified for the quarterfinals,” the FEF celebrated on X.

Palmeiras played the whole second half with ten after Gláucia was sent off for a second yellow card late in the first half, but they still went ahead in the 76th minute when Bia Zaneratto converted a penalty she had won herself. IDV answered in the 84th minute: Karol Murcia kept a ball alive on the line and 19-year-old Evelyn Burgos finished, according to futbolecuador.com. CONMEBOL said Burgos became the second-youngest Ecuadorian to score in the competition in the last five editions, behind teammate Karen Litardo.

IDV out-shot Palmeiras 17 to 10, with 2.1 expected goals to 1.1, and Palmeiras goalkeeper Ravena made six saves, according to CONMEBOL’s match data. Ecuador international Joselyn Espinales started in midfield for Palmeiras before being substituted.

The reward is a meeting with the defending champions. IDV face six-time winners Corinthians, who won Group A with nine points, 14 goals scored and one conceded, on Saturday, October 24 at 4:00 PM ET at the Estadio Banco Guayaquil. It is a single game, and a draw goes straight to penalties with no extra time, according to InfoTimão. Liga de Quito, already eliminated, close their campaign against Bolívar on Thursday night.
