Barcelona SC finally got a win in the LigaPro hexagonal on Sunday, and they did it in style. They won 4-0 at Aucas in the rain at the Estadio Gonzalo Pozo Ripalda in Quito. La Tri also posted that part of the senior national team staff was in the stands.

Darío Benedetto opened the scoring in the 8th minute. He finished a Byron Castillo pass with a chip over Hamilton Piedra. Aucas had most of the ball (63.6% possession and 16 shots to Barcelona’s 8, according to ESPN), but they couldn’t find an equalizer. They then played the last 20 minutes with ten men after Robiño Quiñónez got a second yellow in the 70th minute.

Barcelona scored three times late on. Substitute Luis Cano made it 2-0 in the 82nd minute. Damián Díaz, also off the bench, added a third in the 95th minute, and he then set up Cano’s second in the 98th minute.

The players Gallardo’s staff may have been watching

The staff visit fits with our report on the LigaPro names linked to the November call-up. Aucas’ Alex Zova, Andrés Mena and Piero Guzmán all started, as did Barcelona’s Jefferson Wila. Wila was later substituted. Quiñónez’s second yellow came after a foul on him, according to Barcelona SC’s match report. No squad has been named yet.

Benedetto on his future

After the match, Benedetto was asked about his future and told El Comercio: “I’m happy. At the end of the year I want to rest, see my kids and spend time with my family. Then I’ll see.”

Where it leaves the table

The win takes Barcelona to 48 points, but they are still sixth. Aucas stay on 51 in fifth place. Universidad Católica (53) are third, and Macará (63) are second.

Barcelona play at Macará in Ambato next, on Saturday, Oct 31 at 5:30 PM ET.
