The staff in Daule

“We keep touring the places where our football is built,” the federation wrote. It described the visit as “an opportunity to get to know our sports infrastructure up close and the spaces where the different national teams train, prepare and develop their talent.” As with the earlier stops, the FEF did not name the staff members, and the post was a 38-second video.

The complex in Daule, in Guayas province, is the FEF’s training center for teams working at sea level, mostly the youth national teams. In February the federation renamed it after Dusan Draskovic, the Montenegrin-born coach who led Ecuador from 1988 to 1993 and is credited with modernizing coaching in the country, according to El Diario. The visit follows Guayaquil City on Monday and Barcelona SC and Emelec, then Atlético FC on Tuesday.

Sarmiento: “It’s an honor”

Middlesbrough’s Jeremy Sarmiento, back in the squad for the Asia tour after almost two years away, spoke about his return in an interview released by the FEF and reported by ESPN on Wednesday. “It’s an honor, really. Wearing the shirt, being here with the guys, the people, it’s always a vibe you can’t explain,” he said. He said his best friend in the squad, John Yeboah, had messaged him asking whether he was finally coming back. On Gallardo, Sarmiento said “the impressions have been very good” and that the message in training is clear: “we want to dominate games,” and not just compete.
